BTN reporter Melanie Collins was trying to take advantage of valuable information she had been given. According to her sources at UM, quarterback Tate Forcier was going to transfer. Out of habit she decided to let all 5,000 of her followers know on Twitter.

Within minutes she realized her blunder and erased the tweet. But when you’re a former bikini model and in the media, people naturally watch your every move.

Several UM sites, including the very popular mgoblog caught wind and things unraveled from there.

Given the circumstances surrounding Tate Forcier and the rumors that have been flying for months that he was going to transfer, Collins probably should have thought twice before sending the tweet. But she deserves credit for owning up to it. Something her fellow brethren in the media should take note of.

So all in all, what have we learned from this? I’d say a lot of nothing. Although we do get to re-post some bikini pics of Ms. Collins. And in the end, that makes us all winners
