Ilya Kovalchuk shows off his shootout skills
This past off-season, free agent Ilya Kovalchuk was initially offered a $102 million dollar contract by the New Jersey Devils. The deal, at the time, was the largest in NHL history. However, the next morning the NHL rejected the contract on the basis that it circumvented the salary cap. The Devils went back to the drawing board and lo and behold, a few weeks later, Kovalchuk received $100 million dollars instead. Yes, I’m sure he was devastated to hear he lost out on that paltry $2 million.
All of this brings us to the video below. An extremely humble Ilya did not want to show up this goalie on a shootout attempt, and instead, just let the puck roll of his stick. That’s the only explanation for this kind of hockey futility.
$100 million dollar man for the win!
