Iowa football players test negative for illegal drugs
Earlier this week, 13 Iowa football players were hospitalized with over-exertion and a rare muscle disorder that can cause kidney damage. Rumors started to spread that the players had been using illegal substances, like steroids, to aid them in their off-season training regimens. Given some of the players recent dalliance into the drug scene, it certainly wouldn’t have been a shocker.
But test results were returned yesterday and so far, according to parents, they’re all negative.
Tests for illegal drugs administered to the 13 Iowa football players hospitalized with a rare muscle disorder that can cause kidney damage came back negative, according to a parent briefed on the results.
According to a source, parents agreed to the testing that was recommended by a physician Tuesday. Tests were conducted Tuesday and Wednesday and results were revealed Thursday.
So now the blame for the entire thing falls on the coaching staff and of particular note, Kirk Ferentz, who didn’t even come home from a recruiting trip while this whole thing went down.
And as long as I’m on my soapbox here, let me add this. One player may lose up to 20-30 percent of his kidney functions as a result of the ordeal. In other words, somebody’s ass needs to go to jail. And not like, white collar, minimum security prison. I’m talking pound me in the ass federal prison that resembles a scene out of “Oz”. Endangering the lives of kids, many of whom are still in their teens, just to prove a point about “not finishing games” is disgusting. Combine that with the rampant drug use that supposedly went on right under their noses and it’s a wonder if the coaching staff themselves aren’t using and abusing.
