when gators attack 309x206 Ironman athlete fights off alligator while swimming

I’ve always been of the opinion that people who do Ironman competitions are super-human. As if a regular triathlon wasn’t extreme enough for them, they push their bodies with a 2.4-mile swim, a 112-mile bike and a marathon.

So it’s no surprise that when a man training for an Ironman found himself in the jaws of a Florida alligator, he fought it off with ease.

Doug McCard, the 35-year-old man attacked by the gator, described on Sunday the moment the reptile bit him across his torso as he swam in an east Orange County lake.

His next thought focused on survival. McCard stood up in the waist-deep water at Moss Park and started swinging.

“I got a pretty good elbow to his head, and he released me. … I started yelling maybe to try to scare him away and backed off until I could run, and then I ran out of the water.”

You'll be happy to know that McCard is quite alright and despite being gnawed by an alligator, plans on training again within a matter of days.

See, how lazy do you feel now? I skipped a workout this morning because I was farting too much. This dude barely escapes with his life and is mad he can't work out the next day.
