It’s National Signing Day

national signing day Its National Signing Day

It’s a big day in the landscape of college football and recruiting as high school kids nationwide put their names on the dotted line.

Let me reiterate something from the above sentence. The word “kids”. Most of them are 17, maybe 18 years old and can barely contain their excitement at getting a scholarship somewhere.

Why do I bring this up you ask?

Because of those crazy, rabid fans who spend all day on message boards and forums ripping teenagers they’ve never seen before. Teenagers who may have changed their mind for the school they want to attend aren’t evil, they’re just kids.

It’s amazing the type of vitriol you read that’s spewed from fans because a 17 year-old decided that Florida wasn’t the right school for him and instead, in-state rival Florida State was.

Matt Elam, the highest-rated Florida recruit in the Sporting News Top 100 at No. 4 overall, has switched his commitment from Florida to Florida State, Rivals.com has reported.

After Urban Meyer resigned as Florida’s head coach last Saturday — only to change his mind the next day and say he was taking a leave of absence — Elam’s mother, Addie Lewis, told Sporting News that her son was “in a daze.”

I’d love to copy-paste some of the things I read on a Gators message board about this, but frankly, its extremely NSFW. I realize that people on the internet tend to act tougher because of the anonymity factor but do yourself a favor and maybe, I don’t know, think before you type today.
