An injured Jamaal Charles promoting fantasy football is your picture of the day

The internet is up in arms over a picture of an injured Jamaal Charles promoting fantasy football for NFL.com. If you recall, last Sunday against Detroit, Charles lunged for a first down and tore his ACL in the process. To make matters worse, the injury also caused him to crash into Lions mascot, Roary.

Here’s the pic, which has since been taken down.

Naturally, many in the media are disgusted at the depiction.

Steph Stradley of the Houston Chronicle:

C’mon @NFL this Jamaal Charles ad for your fantasy football site is creepy, awful, dehumanizing

Andrew Sharp of SBNation:

Yep, the same league that never misses a chance to let us know just how much they care about player safety is the first one to try to capitalize on a gruesome player injury.

Vikings punter Chris Kluwe:

Great job NFL.com using a player’s season ending injury to promote fantasy football. Now THAT is a douchebag move.

Barry Petchesky of Deadspin:

The self-appointed crusaders don’t get it, and Arian Foster doesn’t get it, but the NFL gets it. I can’t find the strength to rail against the league just because they’re so obvious about it.

Glenn Davis of SportsGrid:

We said the NFL has got to be kidding in the headline – and they tried to be light-hearted with the way they did the ad, we think – but, well, no, they’re not kidding. As if there was any doubt.

I echo many of the same sentiments shared in the quotes above. I’m not necessarily shocked that the NFL simply doesn’t care about its players or chooses to depict them in this way, I’m just surprised it was right up in my face.

What'd you think of this?
