Jerry Sloan resigning as Jazz coach?

Jerry Sloan has been the Utah Jazz coach since NBA players wore shorts that rode up so high on their thigh, it left little to the imagination. Now, after almost 23 years, it appears he may be on the fritz with the organization.Jerry Sloan 248x214 Jerry Sloan resigning as Jazz coach?

According to the Deseret News, Sloan will resign at a press conference later on today.

The news comes after the Jazz lost to Chicago in Salt Lake City on Wednesday, where former Jazz players Kyle Korver and Ronnie Brewer helped the Bulls escape Utah with a 91-86 win.

After the game, Sloan didn’t come out of his office for a postgame interview until about a half-hour after his team lost for the 10th time in 14 games.

No words can describe the absolute shock I’m in at this news. Sloan is arguably one of the more successful NBA coaches of all-time, although, an NBA championship has always alluded him.

It’s possible the team has tuned him out and it’s also possible that the organization feels Sloan can’t pull the same strings he used to. Legendary Hall of Famer Chuck Daly once said that a coach only has a handful of years before players just don’t want to hear the same message over and over.

Luckily for Sloan, his reign was much longer than most.

On a side note, how odd is it that the longest tenured coaches in both the NBA and NFL are dismissed within weeks of each other?
