If you missed it last night, Ohio State head football coach Jim Tressel was suspended two games by the university and fined $250k for his knowledge of violations by several of his players. Most, including myself believe the school gave Tressel a pass for the major offense and that when the NCAA investigation concludes, they’ll add a few games to it. In all honesty, I’m not sure what kind of punishment it is when Tressel has to sit out games against Akron and Toledo.

The Miami Heat losing streak has now reached five games and apparently, after their loss to the Blazers last night, nobody was seen sobbing. The Heat are one of only 12 teams in NBA history to have winning streaks of at least 12 games and losing streaks of at least 5 in the same season. They wanted to break records, they wanted to be known in the annals of NBA lore, well, they have a permanent spot now.

Is Villanova on the tournament bubble? Last night, the Wildcats blew a 16-point lead to South Florida and lost 70-69, throwing away any momentum they thought they would get in the Big East tourney. Villanova played so poorly in the second half that they only made four field goals…yes, four. Their only wins in the last month have come against Seton Hall and DePaul having lost 7 of their last 9. The only reason they are going to be in the field of 68 this year is because the bubble is extremely weak. Otherwise, Jay Wright and his boys would be in the NIT.

Zack Greinke 135x95 Sports by the numbers: 3/9/11

This wasn’t exactly the start Zach Greinke wanted for his new team, the Milwaukee Brewers. While playing a pick-up basketball game with some friends, Greinke broke a rib. The worst part about it? The injury occurred several weeks ago but wasn’t diagnosed until Tuesday according to team doctors. More than likely, Greinke will start the season on the 15-day DL, although, he believes he feels good enough to play right away.
