John Terry 135x95 John Terry facing criminal charges for alleged racial slur

In October, Chelsea captain John Terry was caught on camera calling another player a “f-cking black c-nt.” At the time, Terry claimed there was a misunderstanding between him and the offending “c-nt”, Anton Ferdinand. A defense that obviously fell on deaf ears.

Today, English prosecutors dropped the hammer on Terry with criminal charges.

The 31-year-old England captain faces a charge of using “threatening, abusive or insulting words or behavior, or disorderly behavior within the hearing or sight of a person likely to be caused harassment, alarm or distress which was racially aggravated.”
Terry’s initial hearing will be at West London Magistrates’ Court on Feb. 1. The maximum sentence for the offense is a fine of $3,920.

The punishment carries nothing more than a slap on the wrist (a fine of $3,920). But the fact he’s even being prosecuted shows that the kind of racist behavior exhibited by many in the EPL will not be tolerated.
