Guyism’s daily look at what’s hot in the world of sports.
On the court, Derrick Rose is a magician. His early play thus far this year will probably earn him All-NBA consideration when it’s all said and done. But he took his Houdini act off the court recently. After agreeing to appear in CBS’s “The Good Wife”, Rose suddenly backed out with no explanation. “But when the car arrived at his house in Chicago Tuesday morning, he didn’t answer the door,” our source related. “The driver waited but he didn’t appear. Finally, an unidentified man came out and said: ‘Derrick is not going to New York.’
Penn State coach and living legend Joe Paterno will go for win number 400 this weekend against Northwestern. Some will probably argue that his assistants deserve more credit than him for actually running the team. Listen, I’m as big a Paterno fan as any, the man has done more for PSU than most people know. But I’m certainly not going to turn a blind eye to his lack of actual game day involvement with the team.
Andy Irons, a three-time world champion surfer died from Dengue Fever yesterday. Irons was originally in Puerto Rico for a competition but dropped out when he felt ill. He went to Miami to receive treatment but opted instead to fly to his native Kauai to see his own doctor. En route there, Irons fever worsened and he passed on a layover in Dallas.
John Wall is only a few games into his rookie campaign and he’s already making his case as one of the up and coming stars in the league. Wall fell one steal short of a triple double last night with 29 points, 13 assists, and nine steals. Unfortunately, the rookie is racking up another less than impressive stat–turnovers. He had 8 again last night.
