Jozy Altidore’s blast gives U.S. soccer much needed win
Jozy Altidore’s absolute missile from 27 yards out was all the U.S. needed to defeat the tiny country of Guadeloupe in Gold Cup action last night. Strangely enough, because of the loss Saturday to Panama, the USMNT was in a rare must-win/tie situation to advance in the tournament.
In fact, it was the only time they had EVER lost in group play. Yea, the competition is not exactly stiff, especially when you have a country in Guadeloupe that only has 400,000 people.
Unfortunately, that play was the lone bright spot all night for the team as they missed several easy opportunities to add to the lead. One of which was this horrible attempt by Clint Dempsey to showboat with a wide open net.
All in all, a win is a win. But I think, deep down, Coach Bradley and the rest of the team is a bit disappointed with the performance.
