Kyrie Irving, who only played 11 games for Duke, has decided to leave school and enter the NBA draft. Irving plans on hiring an agent, ending all speculation that he will change his mind. He is expected to be a lottery pick, if not the top pick overall.

“I want to thank the entire staff at Duke, especially the coaches,” Irving said in a news release. “It was a great experience playing for Coach K. He taught me a lot about the game. Even when I was hurt, I learned a lot. Also a special thanks goes to the medical staff for getting me back on the court for the NCAA Tournament and my teammates for sticking with me throughout the entire year. Duke offered me an experience I could never have imagined.”

No way to tell for sure but this letter from the Duke Chronicle may have pushed him out the door a bit faster than Irving intended. Warning! This is written by a Duke student so you’ll excuse the pompous, stuck-up, a$$hole nature of the text.

Dear Kyrie,

Go pro.

Seriously. Declare for the NBA draft, hire an agent, pick out a nice suit and start practicing to look surprised when your name is one of the first to be called by Commissioner David Stern in June.

Plus, sticking around and winning a fifth national title for the Blue Devils is just selfish, even if you haven’t ever won one yourself. Think about it: Cameron is already full of national championship banners, and adding one of your own would ruin the symmetry in the rafters. Sure, you’ll give up your chance to be remembered as one of Duke’s all-time greatest basketball players, but I bet if you asked Christian Laettner, he would tell you that fans don’t remember collegiate legacies anyway.

That’s all there is to consider. Rest assured, you’ll never regret leaving Duke after just one year, never wonder what might have been if you stuck around to play with the nation’s No. 2-ranked recruiting class, which by the way includes your longtime friend and teammate Austin Rivers. It’s really a no-brainer.

And yes, that’s why people hate Duke. Good luck Kyrie, you’re better off spending your years as far away from the Cameron Crazies as possible.

What'd you think of this?
