As the NBA season winds down, it appears frustration is getting the best of players. Just two nights ago, we had the John Wall-Zydrunas Ilgauskas fight, and last night five players were ejected in a mini-brouhaha between the Mavericks and the Lakers. It initially started with a Jason Terry pushed Steve Blake and quickly escalated when Matt Barnes got involved. It got so bad that a fan tried to get at players at the Mavs bench. Thankfully, there was no Palace Brawl part II, but this series could get very interesting if these two teams meet in the 2nd round.

The New York Yankees and Detroit Tigers kicked off the 2011 MLB season yesterday afternoon with the Bronx Bombers edging out the Motor City kitties 6-3. Justin Verlander and C.C. Sabathia canceled each other out but the NY bullpen held the Tigers to no runs in the last few innings. The offense sputtered mostly because of the poor play of center fielder Austin Jackson and catcher Alex Avila who, between the two of them, had six strikeouts. Not exactly a strong way to start the season fellas.

Congratulations to the Wichita State Shockers for edging out Alabama for their first ever postseason NIT championship 66-57. For the Crimson Tide, it was their 6th loss in the semi-finals or finals of the NIT without winning it all, tying a record with Notre Dame and NYU. The Shockers were one of those mid-majors that was a good team but not good enough for analysts to scream to the high heavens that they got jobbed on selection Sunday. This year alone they almost beat two of the Final Four teams-VCU and UConn.
