Marvin Barnes 135x95 Marvin Bad News Barnes arrested for soliciting a minor

Former NBA and college basketball star Marvin Barnes is back in the news again and shockingly, it’s not “good.” Barnes was arrested for soliciting sex from a high school girl in Providence–a girl who he met through a program for at-risk children. Apparently, Barnes is channeling his inner Jerry Sandusky.

Barnes was released on $5,000 personal recognizance after entering no plea to a felony charge of soliciting a minor. He will return to court on March 19.

Barnes is no stranger to legal problems. He earned the nickname “Bad News Barnes” for his multiple off-court issues while playing for Providence College and later with the Detroit Pistons in the 70s and 80s. He has tried in the last decade to turn a new leaf, counseling youth and helping them with drug problems. But this recent issue suggests he has not erased the demons of his past life or more appropriately stated, “bad news just seems to follow him.”
