Mike Singletary does not care if you’re having a child
Things aren’t going as Mike Singletary had hoped this year. The Niners are off to a 3-6 start and find themselves tied for last place in a very weak NFC West. Earlier in the season, Singletary ran into problems with somebody in the Niners organization speaking to the media without his consent. He referred to that person/player as “a coward and a rat”.
Well, his decision this weekend to bench offensive guard Chilo Rachal for a missed practice won’t go over so well with other players. Rachal’s excuse, from what we can tell, is legitimate. His wife was having a child.
“The bottom line is, Chilo missed the Friday practice,” Singletary said. “He let me know the day before that there was a chance that would happen. I thought it was fair to our offense, our coordinator and our quarterback to start Snyder. There were little changes we made that Chilo was not in tune with.”
There’s a fine line between being a hard-nosed coach and being an idiot. Unfortunately, it seems Singletary may need a new prescription in those glasses he wears, because he apparently can’t see it.
Chilo did end up playing a large portion of the game after his replacement got injured. Judging from the rare Niners win, we’ll go ahead and assume he did an admirable job. I mean, considering he did miss precious practice time and all….right Mike?
