NBA cancels first two weeks of season
In an obvious sign of much darker times ahead, NBA commissioner David Stern has canceled the first two weeks of the season. Last week, Stern said that if no deal had been reached on Monday he would have no choice but to start making adjustments to the 82-game schedule and true to his word, he followed through.
Stern said he was “sorry” and “sad” to report the cancellations.
“We certainly hoped it would never come to this,” he said. “I think that both sides worked hard to get to a better solution. We think that we made very fair proposals. I’m sure the players think the same thing. But the gap is so significant that we just can’t bridge it at this time.”
While many, like Player’s Union chief Billy Hunter think the season is not lost as of yet, fans are not so hopeful. Neither for that matter are many of the players who apologized on their Twitter account but also used the hashtag #standunited in support of the Union.
