Sizing up the Top 25: College football – Week 6

Every week on Guyism, we’ll “size up” the competition for the Top 25 in college football. Here are your match-ups and previews for Week 6 of the NCAA season.
Florida: (4-1, 2-1 SEC)
LSU: (5-0, 2-0 SEC)
LSU -12
Florida leads the all-times series 30-24-3
Prediction: I’d be surprised if this one’s close. LSU is a far superior team and outside of Alabama, have no equal. LSU 28-10.
Vanderbilt @ #2 Alabama
Vanderbilt: (3-1, 1-1 SEC)
Alabama: (5-0, 2-0 SEC)
Alabama -29
Alabama leads the all-time series 57-19-4
Prediction: If Alabama isn’t the best team in the nation, they’re a very close second. Expect the Tide to cover the line 45-14.
#3 Oklahoma @ #11 Texas
Oklahoma: (4-0, 1-0 Big 12)
Texas: (4-0, 1-0 Big 12)
Oklahoma -10.5
Texas leads the all-time series 59-41-5
Prediction: Who knows how long this rivalry will stay intact with all the conference shuffling going on. Be that as it may, Texas may be ranked #11, but they’re not as good as their ranking indicates. Oklahoma wins 31-27.
#4 Wisconsin-BYE
Kansas @ #6 Oklahoma State
Kansas: (2-2, 0-1 Big 12)
Oklahoma State: (4-0, 1-0 Big 12)
Oklahoma State -29
The series is knotted up 29-29-3
Prediction: Don’t recall the last time the Cowboys were ranked this high. They probably won’t jump into the top 5 this week, but if they keep winning, they may jump the Badgers in the near future. OK State in a runaway 38-14.
Colorado @ #7 Stanford
Colorado: (1-4, 0-1 Pac-12)
Stanford: (4-0, 2-0 Pac-12)
Stanford -29
The series is tied at 3-3.
Prediction: Did you see Andrew Luck’s one-handed grab last week? The man can do everything. Stanford 55-24.
Boston College @ #8 Clemson
Boston College: (1-4, 0-2 ACC)
Clemson: (5-0, 2-0 ACC)
Clemson -20
The series is tied up at 9-9-2.
Prediction: There’s nothing scary about this game, Boston College is one of the worst teams in football and the Tigers are roaring. Clemson 31-17.
#15 Auburn @ #10 Arkansas
Auburn: (4-1, 2-0 SEC)
Arkansas: (4-1, 0-1 SEC)
Arkansas -8
Auburn leads the all-time series 11-8-1.
Prediction: The Hogs needed a miracle and a meltdown from A&M last week–doubtful Auburn will fold like that. First upset of the weekend as Auburn rolls into Fayetteville and knocks off Arkansas 21-17.
#12 Michigan @ Northwestern
Michigan: (5-0, 1-0 Big Ten)
Northwestern: (2-2, 0-1 Big Ten)
Michigan -6
Michigan leads the all-time series 52-15-2.
Prediction: Ryan Field at night is a bit more dangerous than people think. The game is dependent on the health of Northwestern’s quarterback, Dan Persa. I like the Wildcats to win here, 30-27.
Maryland @ #13 Georgia Tech
Maryland: (2-2, 1-0 ACC)
Georgia Tech: (5-0, 2-0 ACC)
Georgia Tech -15
Georgia Tech leads the all-time series 13-6.
Prediction: Have yet to see the Yellow Jackets up close this year but I’ve seen enough of the Terrapins and their stupid uniforms. I’m taking GT on fashion principle, 28-10.
Ohio State @ #14 Nebraska
Ohio State: (3-2, 0-1 Big Ten)
Nebraska: (4-1, 0-1 Big Ten)
Nebraska -10
Ohio State leads the all-time series 2-0.
Prediction: Ohio State is not a good football team as evidenced by their shockingly bad offensive output against MSU last week. Expect Nebraska to win big here, 35-7.
Connecticut @ #16 West Virginia
Connecticut: (2-3, 0-0 Big East)
West Virginia: (4-1, 0-0 Big East)
West Virginia -14.5
West Virginia leads the all-time series 6-1.
Prediction: Dana Holgorsen has the best mullet in CFB. In somewhat related news, they’ll win Saturday 27-13.
Kentucky @ #18 South Carolina
Kentucky: (2-3, 0-2 SEC)
South Carolina: (4-1, 2-1 SEC)
South Carolina -20.5
South Carolina leads the all-time series 14-7-1
Prediction: In a battle of Cocks vs Cats, always go with Cocks. South Carolina 38-17.
#19 Illinois @ Indiana
Illinois: (5-0, 1-0 Big Ten)
Indiana: (1-4, 0-1 Big Ten)
Illinois -14
Illinois leads the all-time series 44-21-2.
Prediction: Illinois has played the softest schedule thus far in the country. They’re not a good football team but then again, neither is Indiana. Fighting Illini 31-20.
Missouri @ #20 Kansas State
Missouri: (2-2, 0-1 Big 12)
Kansas State: (4-0, 1-0 Big 12)
Missouri -2
Missouri leads the all-time 60-31-5
Prediction: Probably the toughest game of the weekend to predict. One of those that could truly go either way. I’ll go with Missouri to win but not cover, 24-23.
Miami @ #21 Virginia Tech
Miami: (2-2, 0-1 ACC)
Virginia Tech: (4-1, 0-1 ACC)
Virginia Tech -6
Miami leads the all-time series 17-11.
Prediction: Still not impressed by Virginia Tech but Miami doesn’t have Nevin Shapiro anymore. Hokies 21-14.
#22 Arizona State @ Utah
Arizona State: (4-1, 2-0 Pac-12)
Utah: (2-2, 0-2 Pac-12)
Arizona State -3
Arizona State leads the all-time series 16-6.
Prediction: I’ll go with Utes here, if only because that line makes this a pick ‘em. 27-24.
#23 Florida State @ Wake Forest
Florida State: (2-2, 0-1 ACC)
Wake Forest: (3-1, 2-0 ACC)
Florida State -12.5
Florida State leads the all-time series 23-5
Prediction: FSU will win this game easy but for a team that had national title aspirations, this season is already a disappointment. Seminoles 34-17.
#24 Texas A&M @ Texas Tech
Texas A&M: (2-2, 0-1 Big 12)
Texas Tech: (4-0, 1-0 Big 12)
Texas A&M -6.5
Texas A&M leads the all-time series 36-32-1.
Prediction: A&M has to be one of the least conditioned teams in the country. They’ve essentially lost two games in the fourth quarter because players look dog tired. Still think they’re better than Tech though…35-28.
Iowa State @ #25 Baylor
Iowa State: (3-1, 0-1 Big 12)
Baylor: (3-1, 0-1 Big 12)
Baylor -14
Baylor leads the all-time series 5-4.
Prediction: Heated Big12 rivalry–one that I’m sure is one of the things keeping the conference together. Baylor 42-28.
