Nets and Nuggets allegedly have deal in place for Carmelo Anthony

The wacky and wild Carmelo Anthony trade rumors may be coming to a close sometime this weekend. Multiple NBA sources and NorthJersey.com are reporting that the New Jersey Nets and Denver Nuggets have a deal in place and now, it’s up to Carmelo Anthony to agree to it.Carmelo Anthony trade 309x204 Nets and Nuggets allegedly have deal in place for Carmelo Anthony

The Nets and Nuggets have reached a tentative agreement on a deal involving Anthony, multiple NBA sources told The Record. The deal is pending Anthony agreeing to sign a three-year, $65 million contract extension.

If Anthony says yes, the Nets will get Anthony, Chauncey Billups, Sheldon Williams, Melvin Ely and Renaldo Balkman from the Nuggets. In turn, the Nets will send Devin Harris, Derrick Favors, Troy Murphy, Ben Uzoh and four first-round picks to Denver.

The Nets are going all-out in their effort to land Anthony as owner Mikhail Prokhorov is making the trip to L.A. to meet with him during All-Star weekend. If Prokhorov can flash the right dollar signs and potential worldwide endorsement deals, it may be too much for Anthony to pass up. However, the on-court product, at least for the foreseeable future is, how shall we say, sub-par.

Chauncey Billups is getting up there in age and may only have a year or two of good basketball left in him. If New Jersey is unable to land a point guard and a big man in free agency the next few years, well, Carmelo may be captaining a ship that is headed for nowhere.
