A lot of buzz out of Jacksonville this morning as head coach Jack Del Rio was given the boot after a 3-8 start to the season. But that news pales in comparison to the team being sold to auto-manufacturing mogul Shahid Khan effective January. The announcement came from owner Wayne Weaver in a press conference at team headquarters this afternoon.
Weaver assured the community that the team would NOT leave Jacksonville. When pressed, however, if that stipulation came in writing, Weaver hesitated and admitted it was just a verbal agreement.
Here’s what he had to say.
“There’s not a doubt in my mind this team will be in Jacksonville.” Will that become the 2011 version of “no new taxes.” Hopefully for Weaver’s sake, those words don’t come back to haunt him. Otherwise, he’ll have some angry Floridians hot on his tail.
