The NFL lockout is over
The NFL lockout has come and gone. For all intents and purposes, a deal was agreed upon yesterday between NFL owners and the NFLPA. Now, it’s just a waiting game as players cast their individual votes.
*Update*
[Officially over. All 32 team reps voted unanimously on the deal]
Folks, our long national nightmare is over after more than four months of bickering and fighting. Finally! And here I thought I’d be stuck watching golf, tennis and cycling the rest of the summer.
Here’s the statement released on NFL.com today:
The league’s 32 player representatives and then all of its players still must vote to approve it, but at this point it appears a formality
The players had a conference call scheduled at 11am to discuss the highlights of the deal. There are rumors that the 10-year deal includes NO opt-out clause (ability to renegotiate down the line). If true, the odds we see an 18-game schedule looks dead, at least for the moment
That being said, because the details have not been fully disclosed, it might be too early to speculate on such things. Stay tuned in a few hours as all the i’s get dotted, and t’s crossed.
