Nick Delpopolo disqualified from Olympics after ‘accidentally’ eating something with pot

Nick Delpopolo failed to medal for the U.S. in judo, finishing seventh. That result will not hold up however as Delpopolo was expelled from the Olympics today after testing positive for marijuana. Something Delpopolo claims was inadvertent. As in, he accidentally ate delicious pot brownies with his buddies while playing the bongo and listening to Bob Marley. Hypothetically of course.

The 23-year-old judoka from Westfield, N.J., said his positive test was “caused by my inadvertent consumption of food that I did not realize had been baked with marijuana” before he left for the Olympics.

“I apologize to U.S. Olympic Committee, to my teammates, and to my fans, and I am embarrassed by this mistake,” he said in a statement. “I look forward to representing my country in the future, and will rededicate myself to being the best judo athlete that I can be.”

It’s rather unfortunate really because Delpopolo is responsible for the best GIF from the Olympic games in the form of this acrobatic takedown.

So, like, this never happened? Sad. Incredible what one can do under the influence of marijuana.
