Paul Pierce was looking for a way to make some extra dough while the NBA was in lockout. And really, who could blame him. With $15.3 million due to Pierce for the upcoming season, not having a regular paycheck is probably cutting into his daily expenditures. So Pierce gambled a measly $10k to enter into the World Series of Poker. The Grand Prize you ask? $8.77 million–a substantial reward even for a man of Pierce’s financial stature.

Unfortunately, after making a nice run into Day 2, Pierce was eliminated last night. Damn! Us writers were in desperate need of a decent sports story in this dead week.

Late in Day 2, Paul Pierce was eliminated from the main event of the 2011 World Series of Poker. ESPN.com poker blogger Andrew Feldman said Pierce remained patient until after the dinner break when he “seemed to get active.” He eventually ended up in a “rough spot with 2-2 all-in preflop against the J-J of Allan Vrooman.” Vrooman’s cards held, sending Pierce to the exits.

Well, at the very least, Pierce enjoyed his time in Vegas. Here he is getting a massage during play.

For a guy who’s short a few paychecks, getting an expensive massage at the table probably isn’t the best way to spend your savings.
