Pete Carroll resigns from USC

After a dominating 9 year stretch at USC, Pete Carroll has decided to call it quits and move on to the NFL..
From USC Rivals:
According to sources, Carroll handed in his resignation to USC Sunday evening.
In nine years at USC, Carroll went 97-19, winning two national championships and seven Pac-10 titles.
Carroll and USC have yet to comment.
Carroll has twice been a head coach in the NFL before, spending one year with the New York Jets and three years with New England Patriots.
Coincidentally, it also seems that Carroll is leaving USC right before the hammer drops on the program. And to say that the entire Trojans athletic department was a modern day version of the movie “The Program” would be a severe understatement.
Just some of the NCAA allegations that have surfaced in the past few years:
-Reggie Bush receives cash, car and free housing from agents who hoped to turn a profit when he became a professional
-Joe McKnight driving a SUV owned by a Santa Monica businessman
-Tim Floyd gives money to OJ Mayo associate to ensure he comes to USC during his recruitment
And while the basketball team recently announced self-imposed sanctions sanctions including including a ban on postseason competition at the end of this season, a reduction of scholarships and vacating all of its wins from 2007-08″, there has been nothing as of yet regarding the football program.
But the words “lack of institutional control” must have rung loudly in Carroll’s head. Because now, he’ll leave as the boss of a pseudo professional team in Los Angeles and move on to a cloudy, dreary Seattle team.
Not exactly a step in the right direction.
