Minutes after the Lakers brought home yet another NBA championship, rumors were swirling that Phil Jackson was ready to call it quits. And after 19 seasons in the NBA, who could blame him?

He is the most decorated NBA figure of all-time. He has 11 championships as a coach and 2 as a player. And according to Jackson himself, he is leaning towards retirement.

Via Mike Trudell’s Twitter:

“I’m leaning towards retiring but I haven’t made up my mind yet.
“Some of it is about health. That’s just the way I’m feeling right now. It’s just something I’m going to sit with.

Whether this is a ploy for more money remains to be seen, although, this would certainly not be the first time Phil has played that card. Despite the fact that Jackson has already said he would make a decision within a week or so, I have a strong feeling this stretches out far longer than that.

If there’s anything he enjoys more than winning, it’s the spotlight. If he would have made a decision within the next few days, it would be overshadowed by the NBA draft and the World Cup. Not Phil’s style at all.

Call me when there’s a dull week or two in sports and I can guarantee you Phil will ride that headline pony as long as he can.
