Thoughts

Many times people snicker when they hear, “Rip Hamilton is the heartbeat of the team”. Its an overused cliche thats for sure. But if you want to know if the Pistons played well in a game, your best bet is to look at Rip Hamilton’s stats.

The Pistons offense does not flow well if Rip is not effective. Too many times this team gets bogged down with isolations from tayshuan and settles for high pick n’roll three pointers from Chauncey and Sheed if Rip is not generating anything. Yes, sometimes those shots will fall but in the long run, its not sustainable.

Take note of this the next couple of games. Watch how the Pistons play when they are moving the ball. As a pure basketball fan, its good to see that teams are still willing to play that way. The NBA has become a stars league with star players. And star players dominate the ball and jack up wild shots while the other 4 players on the court watch.

On a side note, Jason Maxiell is really making a name for himself. When Joe Dumars drafted him, everyone wondered what the hell he was doing. An undersized power forward when the Pistons already had one in Ben Wallace? What was he thinking? But I wonder how many GMs now look back and say, Damn, I wish I had somebody who had that kind of energy game in/game out. Dumars may have screwed up on the Darko pick and he’s had some other blunders but he deserves credit for Maxiell. Truly, a diamond in the rough!

What'd you think of this?
