Plane crash kills all but one member of KHL team Lokomotiv
A plane carrying members of KHL team Lokomotiv crashed today leaving just one survivor. Among the passengers on board were former Detroit Red Wing Ruslan Salei and coach Brad McCrimmon.
The plane went down and caught fire shortly after taking to the air. Preliminary reports say it had insufficient lift and hit a beacon tower. An air traffic controller told Itar-Tass, that the plane was some 50 to 60 meters above the ground when it tilted to the left and crashed. The crash site is between 500 and 1,000 meters from the runway, according to different reports.
Forty-four people are now confirmed dead and it appears the lone survivor in the crash is forward Alexander Galimov according to his agent. He’s listed in critical condition.
Tragedy, yet again, in the hockey world. An all too familiar phrase this summer.
