President Obama’s speech will not conflict with Thursday’s NFL opener

President Barack Obama’s speech to Congress next Thursday will NOT conflict with Thursday’s NFL opener. Phew! I guess I can now delete that angry letter to my Congressman.
The speech, apparently, will take place and conclude before game time at 8:30 pm. However, as ProFootballTalk points out, it may still cut into pregame coverage.
But plenty of football fans will still find that outcome unacceptable. The speech is still encroaching on turf that had been reserved for the game, potentially interrupting the pregame coverage on NBC, including the musical acts and the other stuff aimed at getting folks properly lathered up for the official start of the football season — and at permitting Packers fans to properly savor the celebration of their most recent Lombardi Trophy.
So yea, if the bells and whistles of pregame NFL coverage intrigues you, my deepest apologies. For what it’s worth though, if you’re in the Milwaukee area, it appears WTMJ will cover it regardless as the speech is televised on an alternate channel.
