The Big 12 is officially fed up with the rumors that some of its members were thinking about jumping ship to the Big Ten. So fed up in fact they issued both the University of Nebraska and Missouri a deadline: You’re either with us or you aren’t.

“Nebraska has until 5 p.m. on Friday to tell us what they’re going to do,” one school official said, according to the The American-Statesman. “The same deal for Missouri. They have to tell us they’re not going to the Big Ten.”

While many of the rumors involving Big Ten expansion have been unfounded, Joe Schad of ESPN says this one has a lot of credence and frankly, there’s no reason to not believe him here. The Big Ten has openly admitted they are searching for new universities to add and if those schools aren’t coming from the Big East, then the Big 12 is the next logical choice.

As members of the North division, Nebraska and Missouri are often overlooked and even pushed around by the Big 12 power base in Texas/Oklahoma. So if they are indeed flirting with leaving, it would be probably be a step in the right direction for them. The Big Ten is undoubtedly the cream of the crop as far as conferences go. Athletics aside, the 11 universities are regularly ranked as the top 75 academic institutions in America.

Needless to say, the next few weeks should be interesting. If the Big Ten has indeed made an offer or is waiting to make one, a decision will come down fairly soon.

What'd you think of this?
