It appears Shaquille O’Neal will be joining his 4th NBA team in 4 years. The 18-year-veteran will reportedly sign with the Boston Celtics for the league minimum of 1.4 million.

Chris Broussard of ESPN broke the news early this morning on Twitter:

Shaq has decided to join Celtics. He will inform team of his decision this morning, sources tell me.

As somebody dutifully pointed out to me, that contract won’t cover Shaq’s monthly expenses. When his financial records were released as part of his divorce proceedings three years ago, Shaq’s spending per month was right around 875k.

Included in the Shaq spending bonanza:

24k a month on gas and close to 13k on food.

A quick calculation reveals his new contract will pay him about 116k a month. So unless he wants to break open that very large piggy bank he owns, he’ll probably have to scale back just a tad.

I’m thinking about 8k on food should be sufficient. That’s just a few less happy meals.
