Rob Gronkowski had some interesting things to say about concussions

For years, the talk around the Patriots has been of a single superstar, Tom Brady. Notwithstanding the addition of Randy Moss a few years back, Brady hasn’t had the weapons of his peers–mainly Peyton Manning.

That has changed this season with the breakout performances of wide receiver Wes Welker and tight end Rob Gronkowski, the latter of whom scored two touchdowns last night in a 34-3 rout of the Kansas City Chiefs.

One of those touchdowns resulted in Gronkowski doing a backflip and landing rather uncomfortably in the end zone

After the game, ESPN analyst Steve Young asked if he got knocked out on the play. A fair question given that he landed on his head.

Gronkowski responded in kind with:

“I remember the moment and everything. If I didn’t I still wouldn’t even say I didn’t. I’m trying to play this week hahaha.”

Well, good to know Gronk’s a tough guy but I imagine if he did indeed suffered a concussion, he wouldn’t have the ability to tell the medical staff he was “ok”.

Moreover, I’ve always been of the opinion that if you exchanged the word “concussion” with “brain injury”, players would have a much different outlook on it. That, or starting showing them film of players in the past who have suffered repeated hits to the head.

Cues up a clip of Terry Bradshaw speaking.
