Ron Artest has left his blood, sweat and tears on the basketball court–at times, even his fists. All that in the hopes of achieving the ultimate prize of an NBA championship.

And now, after 748 games, after being a key component in the Lakers run, Ron Artest will auction off his championship ring. Thankfully, it’s for a good cause.

Artest intends to auction off the ring he receives Oct. 26 at Staples Center before the Lakers’ season opener to generate funds to put more mental-health advisers in schools. Artest’s crusade to increase mental-health awareness — he is openly thankful for the counseling he has received to help him

If Ron Artest says he doesn’t need his ring and that it raises awareness for mental health, who are we to argue. I think we should just all be glad he isn’t taking his anger out on poor, innocent Detroit fans.
