Ryan Lochte’s family gets emotional as they celebrate gold medal

As Americans, we can be quite cruel. We expect our Olympic athletes to dominate and when they fall just short, we take them to task. Ryan Lochte has won three Olympic medals, two gold and one silver and yet, the overwhelming commentary is rather harsh. The overwhelming commentary is of his failure to place in the 200m-freestyle.

It’s sad really.

Sad that we expect super-human performances in every event. Sad that we forget how hard these athletes work and the sacrifices they make to achieve their dreams.

Take a look at this emotional video of Ryan Lochte’s mom who was fortunate enough to be in London to celebrate with her son. It’ll give you some perspective. Perspective we all seem to be lacking these days as we continually peck away at the keyboard criticizing these young men and women.
