Say it aint so JoePa
*The picture of Joe Paterno falling down after the State game is not posted anymore. Why?
Well, it was not never authorized to be posted in the first place and thus, there is now no direct link to the picture as BWI has taken it down.
Complete speculation on my part but I’m guessing a pic of JoePa falling is not too flattering for the university or JoePa himself.
Because God knows if this was a picture of Joe celebrating a win and not falling down, this wouldnt be a problem.
Let’s get this out of the way:
Joe Paterno is one of the greatest coaches of all-time.
Joe Paterno graduates his players.
Joe Paterno is the most important person in the history of Penn State University.
Joe Paterno is a legend.
BUT
Joe Paterno is 80 years old.
Joe Paterno does not coach games anymore.
Joe Paterno is selfish.
Yes selfish!
This picture was taken after Penn State’s loss to MSU saturday. A game Penn State had led by 17 points. According to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, Joe Paterno had never blown a 17 point lead in his entire career
And you know what, he didnt blow a 17 point lead on Saturday either.
His assistants did.
Joe doesnt even put a headset on anymore and frankly, I wonder if he is even approached when big decisions need to be made during the game. When Penn State faked a field goal on Saturday, Paterno looked just as suprised as the MSU defense.
So then why is Joe around?
a)$$$$
Id venture to say this is the biggest reason. Big alumni donors are comfortable with him at the helm and have probably said as much to the university.
b)Joe’s feelings
He has done so much for the university that the mere mention of forcibly removing him would insult him greatly.
Is that fair to the fans, the alumni, the ticket holders, the athletes, and most of all the assistant coaches?
How many coaches have waited for Joe to retire so they can get their shot?
How many people pay their hard earned money to watch winning football?
A strong argument can be made that PSU isnt putting its best product on the field. Since joining the BigTen in 1993, Penn State has won the conference twice. Twice!
In fact, Paterno only fielded one losing team at Penn State from 1966-1999. But in the last 7 years, he has fielded 4.
Its time for Joe Paterno to look at himself in the mirror and say, “Ive done enough here. I have to move on”
Dont taint your legacy Joe. Dont let this picture be how people remember you.
