Serena Williams does not like tennis
Serena Williams does not love tennis. Our very own Katie Nolan hit on this in the Guyism Speed Round today, but it bears repeating. The most dominant female tennis player since Steffi Graf and arguably one of the greatest players in history, regardless of gender, does not love the sport that made her millions.
“I’m not playing a full schedule this year, I just want to be able to do other things that I’m doing and expand on that and I think that will help keep my motivation up,” the 30-year-old revealed Monday after winning her first-round match against South Africa’s Chanelle Scheepers at the Brisbane International. “I don’t love tennis today, but I’m here. I can’t live without it,” Williams said, admitting she never liked sports and never understood how she became an athlete.
Serena has often said she’d like to open up a salon as a certified nail technician, but alas, the thought of working with the hands and feet of old hags has not proved to be enough of a motivational factor to sway her. Instead, she’ll go into the Australian Open this month as the prohibitive favorite. A tournament she’s won a record five times.
