Serena Williams may miss the U.S. Open
A foot injury may keep Serena Williams out of the upcoming U.S. Open. The #1 player in the world mysteriously cut the foot on some broken glass at a restaurant and had surgery to “correct” it.
That’s one hell of a piece of glass.
The tour said last week she needed surgery and would miss three tournaments leading to the Open — the last one coming two weeks before the Open.
I’m certainly not calling for conspiracy theorists here but I find it odd that Serena played an exhibition after the injury and then decided she needed surgery. This wasn’t a sprain or a pull where you need to test the stability of a joint or anything. This was glass in your foot “supposedly”. It’s one of those things where you can play or you can’t–there is no gray area.
And surgery? Dang, must have been some Pyrex or something.
Maybe Serena is quietly boycotting the U.S. Open because of last year’s incident with a line judge.
Hmmm.
