Shaq will be joining the TNT crew of “Inside the NBA” according SI’s Richard Deitsch. Although the move had been rumored for quite a few days, SI was the first media outlet to confirm it.

Shaquille O’Neal, the future Hall-of-Fame center with nearly as many nicknames as career points, has joined Turner Sports as an NBA analyst. He becomes a permanent member of the studio show hosted by Ernie Johnson, and will be part of the network’s playoff and All-Star weekend coverage.

Given Shaq’s larger than life personality, this move makes perfect sense. Though the show is wildly successful in its own right, it can only get better when you have two guys in Charles Barkley and Shaq who are willing to say or do anything for the viewing audience.

That said, as excited as I am about the potential hilarity the show can produce, my mood is soured by the NBA lockout that will almost surely last the entirety of the 2011-2012 season. Ugh. My feelings on the matter can be most aptly summarized by this South Park episode when Cartman freezes himself so he doesn’t have to wait three more weeks for the new Nintendo Wii to come out.

“It’s like waiting for Christmas…times a thousand”
