Shot heard round the world: Bobby Thomson dies at 86

Bobby Thomson, whose “Shot heard round the world” is arguably the greatest homer run in baseball history died at the age of 86 Monday night. Thomson’s career spanned 15 years and included a .270 avg, 264 HRs, and 1026 RBIs. A three time All-Star early in his career, it was his broken ankle in spring training with the Atlanta Braves in 1954 that drew headlines. It allowed a future all-time great a spot on the roster–Hank Aaron.

But above all, Thomson is remembered for his home run to win the 1951 League Pennant for the New York Giants. The famous call of “Giants win the pennant, Giants win the pennant” heard below.
