Sizing up the Top 25: College football – Week 4

Every week on Guyism, we’ll “size up” the competition for the Top 25 in college football. Here are your match-ups and previews for Week 4 of the NCAA season.
Missouri: (2-1, 0-0 Big 12)
Oklahoma: (2-0, 0-0 Big 12)
Oklahoma -19.5
Oklahoma leads the all-time series 65-25-5.
Prediction: Oklahoma showed last week that they can handle a great team in a hostile environment. At home, against Missouri, it should be significantly easier. 34-17
#2 LSU @ #16 WVU
LSU: (3-0, 1-0 SEC)
WVU: (3-0, 0-0 Big East)
LSU -6
LSU won 20-10 at home in the very first meeting of the two schools.
Prediction: LSU has the best defense in college football and it’s not even close. WVU won’t even know what hit them. LSU wins 24-7.
#14 Arkansas @ #3 Alabama
Arkansas: (3-0, 0-0 SEC)
Alabama: (3-0, 0-0 SEC)
Alabama -12.5
Alabama leads the all-time series 11-8
Prediction: If this game was in Fayetteville, I’d maybe give the Hogs a chance to win. But at Bryant-Denny Stadium, you have to give Alabama the edge. The Tide win, but don’t cover, 28-24.
Tulsa @ #4 Boise State
Tulsa: (1-2, 1-0 C-USA)
Boise State: (2-0, 0-0 MWC)
Boise State -27
Boise State leads the all-time series 5-0
Prediction: And now begins the Mickey Mouse portion of Boise State’s schedule, 41-23.
#5 Stanford-BYE
South Dakota @ #6 Wisconsin
South Dakota: (2-1)
Wisconsin: (3-0, 0-0 Big Ten)
Wisconsin -48
Wisconsin leads the all-time series 1-0
Prediction: Wisconsin looks impressive this year, but yes, they’re playing cupcakes. Nothing different this week, 55-10.
#7 Oklahoma State @ #8 Texas A&M
Oklahoma State: (3-0, 0-0 Big 12)
Texas A&M: (2-0, 0-0 Big 12)
Texas A&M -3
Texas A&M leads the all-time series 17-9
Prediction: Tough one here in basically a pick-em game with the line. Gonna go with the road dog here, if nothing else, because of this picture.
#9 Nebraska @ Wyoming
Nebraska: (3-0, 0-0 Big Ten)
Wyoming: (3-0, 0-0 MWC)
Nebraska -25.5
Nebraska leads the all-time series 5-0
Prediction: Why, exactly, is Nebraska playing Wyoming on the road? Am I missing something? Cornhuskers win 35-14.
#10 Oregon @ Arizona
Oregon: (2-1, 0-0 Pac-12)
Arizona: (1-2, 0-1 Pac-12)
Oregon -16
Oregon leads the all-time series 22-14
Prediction: Have you seen the new Oregon cheerleading uniforms? I’d much rather break that down than this boring that will inevitably be over by the end of the first quarter. 63-17.
#11 Florida State @ #21 Clemson
Florida State: (2-1, 0-0 ACC)
Clemson: (3-0, 0-0 ACC)
Florida State -3
Florida State leads all-time series 17-7
Prediction: So my Florida State National Champion prediction is pretty much in the toilet. And frankly, Clemson looked pretty dominant against Auburn last week. Gotta go with the Tigers in a close one, 24-23.
Vanderbilt @ #12 South Carolina
Vanderbilt: (3-0, 1-0 SEC)
South Carolina: (3-0, 1-0 SEC)
South Carolina -18.5
South Carolina leads the all-time series 16-4
Prediction: Listen, Vanderbilt is only in the SEC to make up for the poor academics of the other member schools. That’s it. Nobody expects them to do anything on the football field. South Carolina cruises, 28-10.
#13 Virginia Tech @ Marshall
Virginia Tech: (3-0, 0-0 ACC)
Marshall: (1-2, 1-0 C-USA)
Virginia Tech -20
Virginia Tech leads the all-time series 8-2
Prediction: Unless Chad Pennington and the ghost of Randy Moss are showing up, the Thundering Herd have no chance. 41-17.
#15 Florida @ Kentucky
Florida: (3-0, 1-0 SEC)
Kentucky: (2-1, 0-0 SEC)
Florida -11
Florida leads the all-time series 44-17
Prediction: Although this isn’t the same Gators team we’re accustomed to seeing, they’ll have enough to beat Kentucky. 27-23.
Rice @ #17 Baylor
Rice: (1-1, 0-0 C-USA)
Baylor: (2-0, 0-0 Big 12)
Baylor -19.5
Baylor leads the all-time series 46-30-2
Prediction: Let’s be honest here, nobody knows anything about Rice. Baylor wins 34-20.
UTEP @ # 18 South Florida
UTEP: (2-1, 0-1 C-USA)
South Florida: (3-0, 0-0 Big East)
South Florida -26
The two teams have never played
Prediction: When all the conference reshuffling is done, will South Florida still be in the Big East? Who knows. South Florida wins 27-23.
#19 Texas @ Iowa State
Texas: (3-0, 0-0 Big 12)
Iowa State: (3-0, 0-0 Big 12)
Texas -21
Texas leads the all-time series 7-1
Prediction: Did you former Big12 Commissioner Dan Beebe’s rant on Iowa State: “IOWA STATE, HOLY MOTHER OF GOD, YOU HAVE ALWAYS BEEN A DRAIN ON THE CONFERENCE AND ON MY SANITY. YOU ARE WORTHLESS. EVERYONE IS FLEEING YOU.” Yep, we concur. Texas wins going away, 42-14.
Portland State @ #20 TCU
Portland State: (2-0, 1-0 Big Sky)
TCU: (2-1, 1-0 MWC)
TCU -44.5
The two schools have never met
Prediction: TCU is only ranked because of preseason hype. That Baylor loss will sting all year. 50-13.
San Diego State @ #22 Michigan
San Diego State: (3-0, 0-0 MWC)
Michigan: (3-0, 0-0 Big Ten)
Michigan -9.5
Michigan leads the all-time series 1-0
Prediction: Excuse me while I scoff at Michigan being ranked. They’ve yet to leave the Big Hole and won’t for another two weeks. This one will be closer than people think. Michigan wins 34-24.
#23 USC @ Arizona State
USC: (3-0, 1-0 Pac-12)
Arizona State: (2-1, 0-0 Pac-12)
Arizona State -1.5
USC leads the all-time series 18-9
Prediction: I really want to believe that USC can win this on the road but I’ve yet to see them really put a team away (Syracuse doesn’t count). Sun Devils in a close one 36-33.
Western Michigan @ #24 Illinois
Western Michigan: (2-1, 1-0 MAC)
Illinois: (3-0, 0-0 Big Ten)
Illinois -15.5
Illinois leads the all-time series 2-1
Prediction: Although I believe Illinois may be the surprise team in the BigTen, I can’t put any kind of faith in Ron Zook. On top of that, the Broncos are actually a solid squad. Upset city, 28-27.
North Carolina @ #25 Georgia Tech
North Carolina: (3-0, 1-0 ACC)
Georgia Tech: (3-0, 0-0 ACC)
Georgia Tech -4.5
Georgia Tech leads the all-time series 25-18-3
Prediction: Going with another upset here in ACC country as the Heels win on a last second field goal, 31-28.
