South African sprinter was drugged without her knowledge

More shenanigans in the world of South African track and field. This time it’s sprinter Geraldine Pillay who says she was injected with some kind of blood-boosting drug without her knowledge.

It turned out to be Actovegin, a calf’s blood derivative which boosts the amount of oxygen carried by the blood and can also mask other substances.

Pillay said the drug was administered by team doctor Maaki Ramagole on the advice of Ekkart Arbeit, a controversial former East German coach.

This shouldn’t have to be spelled out but I guess I’m willing to give athletes out there some invaluable advice. If a “former East German coach” approaches you and wants to inject you with “vitamins”, well, run like hell. That is unless you want to win a gold medal at the expense of having testicles later on in life.

And no, I’m not kidding.

So yea, in conclusion, don’t get injected with a calf’s blood derivative. Do you hear me Caster Semenya?
