Spring home of Rays players burglarized
Evan Longoria, David Price and Reid Brignac of the Tampa Bay Rays rented a home in nearby Port Charlotte, Florida so they could go back and forth with ease for spring training games. Apparently though, people with sinister ideas had also taken notice of the trio’s schedule. While playing in a daytime game last Saturday afternoon, thieves burglarized their residence and got away with more than $50,000 in valuables.
“They took pretty much everything that was ours inside the house,” Longoria told the newspaper.
“Everything was gone,” Brig¬nac added. “It’s just a crappy situation.”
According to The Times, missing items included a 60-inch flat screen TV, three iPads, two Xbox game systems, headphones, Price’s laptop and several of Price’s high-priced watches that were packed in a bag of clothes. Price estimated his personal loss in excess of $50,000.
You really have to feel for Evan Longoria as this is the second time he’s been victimized by thieves in a matter of weeks. His 1967 black and white Camaro worth over $75,000 was taken from an Arizona body shop in early March. Talk about a string of bad luck.
Also, on a side note, this may explain Longoria’s “less-than” performance in spring training. His .250 average and 12 strikeouts in only 52 AB’s is quite unlike him. Then again, if I got taken for over $100k in less than a month, I’d be pretty unfocused too.
