Surfer withdraws from competition after seeing shark

Dusty Payne, a pro surfer on the ASP tour, withdrew from a competition in San Francisco after spotting a large shark. Um, a shark? Really? As I stand several hundred miles inland, allow me to call you a wussy sir.

“I was just sitting there, and I was waiting for a wave. I’ve seen dolphins before, and it wasn’t a dolphin,” Payne said during an interview on the beach with the Rip Curl Pro Search event’s camera crew. “It was the biggest fin I’ve ever seen in my life coming straight at me.”

For what it’s worth, nobody else saw this so-called large shark, however, a boat did spot a dolphin soon after. So was Dusty crying, “Jaws.” Hmm.

It should be noted that Dusty Payne is no slouch. He has won close to $250k as a surfer and is currently ranked 24th in the world.
