It hasn’t been an easy week for Cincinnati Reds pitcher Mike Leake. It was just a few days ago that Leake was arrested at a Macy’s for stealing $60 worth of t-shirts. Leake’s people claim that he had already paid for the shirts and was just trying to exchange them, but that BS theory is believed by absolutely no one.

Regardless of the theft, Leake came out for the Reds and pitched a hell of a game given the circumstances. 7 innings, 3 runs and 4 hits in a 7-4 win over the Diamondbacks. Manager Dusty Baker, who has stood behind Leake since the allegations had this to say after the game.

“I was glad for him,” said manager Dusty Baker, who pulled Leake close for a hug when he left the field. “I was proud of him, and we needed it badly. That’s as big a win as we’ve had since Opening Day.”

Thankfully for Leake, he’ll miss the upcoming series at St. Louis as the fans there would have been more than ruthless with him. A t-shirt would have been the least of his concerns with all the heckling that will go on from the Cardinals faithful. One Cincinnati writer even came up with a rather clever response to all the Mike Leake t-shirts floating around the last few days from Cardinals fans. Because, you know, everybody seems to have forgotten LaRussa getting fall-down drunk and falling asleep in his car.
