The Tennessee football program continues to have problems with the law. As many as 7 players were involved in a huge bar room brawl last night. To make matters worse, one player knocked a police officer unconscious and repeatedly kicked him before fleeing the scene.

According to witnesses, the officer was hit in the head and knocked to the ground. Once on the ground the suspect kicked the officer several times before fleeing the scene. Six individuals were identified as potential suspects. These individuals were located and detained for questioning. It appears several of these individuals may be associated with the University of Tennessee football program.

I realize that teams normally have to recruit some kids with pasts that are a bit, how shall we say, sordid. Petty theft and maybe a fight here and there are understandable. Some might even say it’s just “kids being kids”.

But I think we can all draw the line for that at “kicking an officer on the ground”. That kid, whoever he may be, quickly went from receiving a free education at a public institution to receiving 3 square meals at a state institution.
