The greatest rant in the history of sports talk radio
After arguably the most devastating loss in Michigan State history in 2006 to Notre Dame, radio host Mike Valenti, a Spartan grad and alum, took to the airwaves to voice his displeasure with then coach John L. Smith. It’s widely regarded as the greatest rant in the history of sports talk radio.
You’ll know why after listening to it. (And yes, I realize it’s 15 minutes long, but trust me, it’s worth it. Plus, this weekend marks the fifth anniversary)
A personal note here. Many believe that this rant was contrived, perhaps even set-up for the purpose of ratings. I can tell you with the utmost confidence that it’s simply not true. I’ve met Mike Valenti and he’s one of the most passionate Spartan fans out there.
And yes, that handsome but frustrated man seated in the middle is yours truly during that 2006 debacle. That was immediately before I went to the bathroom and wept like a baby.
I hate you John L. Smith, I hate you with every fiber of my being. I don’t want to go Serena Williams on you, but if I see you on the street, look the other way. In fact, run…lest I bludgeon you repeatedly over the head for that joke of a game.
