The NFL lockout is over….for now
On Monday afternoon, U.S. District Judge Susan Richard Nelson ended the NFL lockout citing the irreparable damage to the players’ career. The owners and the NFL however have vowed to appeal, perhaps as early as tonight or tomorrow morning.
“We will promptly seek a stay from Judge Nelson pending an expedited appeal to the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals,” the league said. “We believe that federal law bars injunctions in labor disputes. We are confident that the Eighth Circuit will agree. But we also believe that this dispute will inevitably end with a collective bargaining agreement, which would be in the best interests of players, clubs and fans. We can reach a fair agreement only if we continue negotiations toward that goal.”
With the NFL draft this weekend, it will be interesting to see how Nelson’s ruling affects player movement and trades or if teams operate as if nothing has changed in regards to the CBA. Either way, this is far from over, as the appeals process could last well into the summer.
