Tony LaRussa did not use Verizon last night
A telephone call gone awry ultimately led to the St. Louis Cardinals demise in Game 5 of the World Series. In two separate instances, manager Tony LaRussa called the bullpen in an attempt to get Jason Motte warmed up but they were unable to decipher what he was saying. Instead, bullpen coach Derek Lilliquist told Lance Lynn to throw, thinking that’s who LaRussa wanted. The gaffe led to Mike Napoli crushing a double for the game-winning runs.
Afterwards, LaRussa spoke about the phone difficulties.
In this day and age of advanced communication, it’s a wonder how something like this occurred. That said, this is now a perfect moment for LaRussa to capitalize on a marketing opportunity for Verizon. This is a layup folks.
