Track athlete beats on mascot after winning race

Mascot abuse! French athlete Mahiedine Mekhissi-Benabbad won the 3000 meter steeplechase at the European championships yesterday and celebrated by hitting and shoving the mascot, “Appy.” Even worse, the person behind the costume was a 14-year-old girl who was simply trying to give him a gift bag.

Thankfully, she was unharmed in the accident albeit, very stunned.

I realize it’s July and there’s still plenty of time for athletes to exhibit douchebaggery over the next five months, but I highly doubt we find a bigger asshole in 2012. So congrats, Mr. Mekhissi-Benabbad, not only does your name suck but you suck as a human being.

I sincerely hope this happens to you in London.
