When your college team makes one of the most historic runs in NCAA history to get to its first Final Four, odds are, fans and students are going to be overcome with joy. Usually that joy is contained to some public drunkenness and a few arrests. But every once in awhile, the fans take it over the top.

After VCU defeated Kansas last night, seemingly everyone in Richmond took the streets to celebrate. WRIC Channel 8 in Richmond wanted to get a firsthand account of the situation as it unfolded so they parked their van in the middle of the ruckus. And naturally, things got ugly from there. Fans overtook the van and began to dance on top of it (one guy actually manages some pretty sweet moves). It wasn’t until the riot police arrived with tear gas that students began to disperse.

Moral of the story for those crafty local news reporters. It’s one thing to give it the ‘ol college try to get the news, it’s quite another to become the news..
