VIDEO: Caroline Wozniacki, Kim Clijsters imitate obnoxious grunting players

Caroline Wozniacki is certainly having a good time these days. After finishing the season ranked #1, Wozniacki has played in a few exhibitions in tennis’ silly season. Two weeks ago she turned a match against Dominika Cibulkova into a dance party and later playfully flashed her butt to the crowd.

Yesterday, Wozniacki continued with her antics at the Diamond Games in Belgium. Along with competitor Kim Clijsters, the two poked fun at some of the female grunters on tour.

Although it appears Wozniacki is imitating ladies like Maria Sharapova and Victoria Azarenka in a joking manner, she’s been one of the more outspoken players about the grunting issue. In late October, ahead of the ATP championships, she had this to say.

I think there are some players who do it on purpose,” she said. “They don’t do it in practice and then they come into the match and they grunt. I think they [officials] could definitely cut it.”

Though Wozniacki did not use the word “cheat”, she made it perfectly clear that the serial offenders had an unfair advantage over the rest. “If you grunt really loudly your opponent cannot hear how you hit the ball,” she said. “Because the grunt is so loud, you think the ball is coming fast and suddenly the ball just goes slowly. In tight moments, maybe the grunt helps them with getting less nervous.”

By the way, Wozniacki lost in straight sets to Clijsters, 6-2, 7-6. Yet another loss for a woman who seems to have trouble beating top ranked players. Perhaps she should cut down on the histrionics and focus more on, you know, actually beating someone.
