Pavel Datsyuk 309x172 VIDEO: Despite amazing Pavel Datsyuk goal, Sharks win Game 7

The San Jose Sharks tried their damnedest to throw away this series like only they could. After taking a commanding 3-0 lead, the Sharks watched as a beat up Red Wings squad stormed back to force a Game 7. But despite their best efforts and some horrible luck losing two players to concussions, the Wings failed to become the fourth team in NHL history to pull off the feat.

Not lost in the hoopla of comebacks and Patrick Marleau’s missing heart however, was the amazing play of Wings forward Pavel Datsyuk. With the team shorthanded for much of the playoffs, he essentially vaulted himself into “the best player in the world” argument. His playmaking skills have been on display for many years, but he’s always been considered a reluctant shooter.

Well, last night, he led the team with 8 shots on goal including this phenomenal backhander when the Wings were scrambling down two goals.
